Just when you think you’ve heard it all, something comes up that just blows your mind.

According to a news story from the Associated Press, parents looking for information about child car-seat safety are calling a phone number long associated with the Colorado State Patrol (and discontinued by CSP in 2012) and finding out the number now belongs to a phone sex company.

Upon calling 1-877-LUV-TOTS (588-8687), parents are reaching a recording that advertises “America’s hottest talk line.”

CSP spokesman Mike Baker says the phone number was established in 2002 as a way for people in the state’s rural areas to find child car seat safety information. The number was discontinued in January 2012 due to glitches in the system.

The State Patrol says that sometime between then and now, the number was purchased by a phone sex company.

Although the state patrol has discontinued the phone number, it is listed by HealthOne as the place to go for car seat information.

Colorado State Patrol says the department is aware of the issue and is fixing the problem.
