The NHL season is coming to a close and in my opinion the man who will win the coach of the year award should be Patrick Roy. In his first year behind the bench Roy (pronouced "Waa", for the rookies) has made the Colorado Avalanche one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

Roy took over a team that was last in the west last season and hadn’t made the playoffs since the 09-2010 season. The Avalanche had some great young talent but they couldn’t turn the corner until this season.

This year the Avalanche have 91 points and are second in the Central Division. They are a lock to make the playoffs and could host the first round. That is a big swing in the standings for a team that has only been over the 90 point mark once in the last five seasons.

Sure you could say they have a better team this year but this is pretty much the same group of players from last season, so what is different? Patrick Roy is the answer to that question. He is getting the best from his players every night.

Regardless of how the playoffs end for the Avalanche Patrick Roy will is a slam dunk to win the Jack Adams award as the best coach in the NHL this season.
