The winter excursion to Yankee Girl Mine is more than a chance to have fun in the snow. It's also a lesson in Colorado mining history.

The trip to Yankee Girl Mine guided by Historian and Author Don Paulson is Saturday (Feb 18) will be a fun day of snowshoeing, or if you prefer cross country or touring gear, and an opportunity to learn more about the area and the history of the mine.

The excursion will depart from the Ouray Visitor Center, 1230 Main Street at 9:30 a.m. and should end around 2:30 p.m. depending on how much the group discovers.

Advance registration is required as there is only room for 20 people. Participants need to have their own winter clothing and snow gear, snacks, lunch, water, sunscreen and other personal items needed for a winter trek in the mountains. No pets, please.

Register online at the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership (UWP) website or by calling 970-325-3010. Each participant is asked to donate $25 to support the Ouray County Historical Society and UWP.
