Update on Young Colorado Bear Rescued From East Canyon Fire

CPW has given an update on a young Colorado bear that was rescued from the East Canyon fire near Durango. The yearling bear should be released in 6-8 weeks.

Firefighters spotted a bear on Tuesday, June 16 that was walking near the East Canyon fire who was very badly burned. Colorado Park and Wildlife tracked the bear down, tranquilized it, and took it to a rehab facility.

This poor yearling bear's paws were terribly burned, to the point where its paw pads were peeling off. The bear has been at a rehab facility since it was picked up by CPW officers and we're wishing the bear a speedy recovering.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife posted an update about the burned bear today, Friday, June 19, which you can see below. CPW says the bear is at a rehab facility in the San Luis Valley and the bear is going to be okay.

You can clearly see that the bear's feet are hurting and it slowly walks around and dips its paws in the water. Colorado Parks and Wildlife anticipates that they will be able to release the bear back into the wild in six to eight weeks, which is great news.

It breaks our heart to see any animal getting hurt and we're so glad that CPW was able to track the bear down and get it to somewhere safe. We're looking forward to seeing the bear make a full recovering and get released back in its home.
