‘The Mountain Rules’ Should Improve Safety on I-70
The heavily traveled I-70 mountain corridor will become safer in the coming months.
A new safety initiative has been launched aimed at educating truckers. This will ultimately make I-70 travel safer for everyone. The safer truckers can operate, the safer I-70 will be.
Traveling the I-70 mountain corridor can be daunting. Dealing with high speeds, the high volume of traffic, and lots of big rigs is one of the necessary evils of living in Colorado.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is adding six new signs on eastbound I-70 letting drivers know about brake check locations. There will also be some improvements to the short-term truck parking area at the Genesee Park exit.
Truck drivers will have the opportunity to subscribe to an in-cab alert system warning of areas where brake trouble can happen, while also alerting them about brake check areas and runaway truck ramps.
This new program will also educate truckers on how to use safety features already in place like the runaway ramps. CDOT will determine whether additional runaway ramps are needed.
This safety initiative is in partnership with CDOT, the Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Motor Carriers Association, PrePass, and Drivewyze.
Everyone traveling I-70 should be happy about these steps to help make the corridor safer for everyone
