Thursday the Colorado Avalanche locked up young center Matt Duchene to a five-year $30 million dollar contract extension. The 22-year-old has 82 goals and 111 assists in 266 games with the Avalanche. With Nathan Mackinnon, Paul Stastny and Ryan O’Reilly the Avalanche will be one of the deepest teams at center this season.

The Avalanche had said they preferred Mackinnon over Seth Jones for the last two weeks and they stuck to their guns. Last night the Colorado Avalanche made a trade with the Calgary Flames, sending David Jones and Shane O’Brien to the Flames for Cory Sairch and Alex Tanguay. The deal brings the 33-year-old Tanguay back to the city where he started his career.
