Shrooms Decriminalized In Denver, Should The Law Be Statewide?

By a thin margin, Denver voters approve to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms

Early predictions had the measure failing. With just over 50% of the vote, Denver becomes the first US city to decriminalize "magic mushrooms." It was close. Voters approved the city measure by just 1,979 votes. When certified next week, the new law would decriminalize the possession or use of the mushrooms by residents 21 years old or older. Initiative 301 doesn't "legalize" mushrooms but rather would "prohibit the city from spending resources to impose criminal penalties” for personal use, possession and the growing of them in your basement.

For centuries, shrooms have been a recreational drug. Big back in the 60s and 70s, the drug has seen a recent resurgence in popularity. They too are gaining support in the medical community. A growing number of medical researchers and their findings suggest that psilocybin can treat certain mental conditions including anxiety and depression. A reminder, the federal government considers psychedelic mushrooms an illegal drug.

Is state approval next? Federally, marijuana is an illegal drug. That fact was just a speedbump when Colorado voters approved weed for recreational use in 2012, which of course led to its legalization on January 1st, 2014. If an upcoming state election had the decriminalization of psychedelic mushrooms on the ballot would you vote for or against it? I believe Colorado voters would approve such a measure. Tea anyone?
