Do you love to shop in downtown Grand Junction? I do. Take a little trip back in time and revisit some of GJ's downtown shops with these Bob Grant photos.

Did you ever shop JC Penney's when it was still located on Main Street? It remained there well into the 1980s. Check out the Cisco Kid visiting with Grand Junction youth in front of the old store.

How about Zales before they moved to the Mesa Mall? For that matter, did you ever visit Hesteds?

Check out Quincy's. Wow, that bar has been in that spot forever. What I really get a kick out of is the car dealership a few doors down from Quincy's. Later, many of us would go to that same location for breakfast.

Do you recall when Western Slope Auto was on Main Street? At that same time, a cab company used to lease parking spaces in front of the car dealership. A distant relative of mine, Russell Grant, owned the cab company for a little while.

Did you ever take your car to A-1 Muffler on 5th Street? I grew up there. My dad owned it in the late 1960s. During his years as the proprietor, the building caught fire. He rebuilt and continued to run the business until somewhere around 1969. I don't know what's going on with the car at left, but it looks to me like it needs a lot more than just a new muffler.

Back in the day, even into the 1970s, you could find a service station on pretty much every corner of 7th and Main.

If you stop and think about it, several of the business pictured above are still up and running. Most of these photos were taken in the 1950s. Almost 70 years later, many are still going strong. Sure, some have moved to new locations, but others, Quincy's for example, are right where they've always been.
