Softball Pitcher Gives Up Game-Winning HR, Helps Injured Batter Round the Bases [VIDEO]
In this day and age in sports when all we seem to hear are negative stories about steroids and Donald Sterling, it's nice to hear one that is truly heartwarming.
In a story you may have missed, Florida Southern College senior Chelsea Oglevie gave up a game-winning three-run home run to Eckerd College's Kara Oberer during a softball game last month.
Oberer had unknowingly torn her right PCL earlier in the game and couldn't run around the bases. Enter Oglevie, who, in a true show of sportsmanship, helped carry Oberer around the bases.
Oglevie, who carried Oberer along with teammate Leah Pemberton, said helping her was a no-brainer:
As soon as she hit first base and her team couldn't help her anymore, she was just absolutely sobbing. She literally couldn't put one foot in front of the other. I was like, 'There's no way this girl isn't gonna make it home.' "
The moment was also not lost on Oberer. "It was so heartfelt, because Chelsea is a senior pitcher," she said. I was pretty much her last batter and that was the last game of her college career. She didn't even think about it, she just reacted and helped me around the bases."
