If you go to Gunnison in January you can expect it to be extremely cold, and there's gonna be a lot of snow - but, apparently this time it was too much snow even for the wintery town of Gunnison.

According to contributors on Reddit, with some 2 1/2 feet of snow in the past week - and more on the way, Gunnison schools were closed for the first time in over 30 years. Even Western State Colorado University closed down and canceled classes this week.

One Reddit reader said friends were calling it  the "worst they've seen in 15-20 years." We believe them!

These photos from Gunnison County are likely to make you feel better about the "tiny" amount of snow and ice we received here in the Grand Valley, and, if you're like me, thankful you don't live in - or near- Gunnison.
