Right smack in the middle of a day of crushing bad news comes a shimmering ray of hope. It appears Colorado Springs is getting not one, but two new In-N-Out Burgers.

The good news came down late this morning. In-N-Out has already confirmed the opening of one new restaurant in Colorado Springs. That store is scheduled to open this year. Today's announcement involves the opening of a second Colorado Springs location in 2021.

KKTV 11 News posted today the city of Colorado Springs plans to tear down the former Outback Steakhouse northeast of Powers Boulevard and build a new, almost 4,000 square foot restaurant complete with a drive-thru, patio, and seating for 124 customers.

Wasn't it just a year ago everyone asked, "Why can't we have an In-N-Out Burger in Colorado?" Well, it appears the burger fairies were listening and eager to grant our wish.

Back in 2016, I posted a blog about In-N-Out called Western Colorado Needs to Get One of These Right Now. I had just visited my first In-N-Out Burger while visiting Las Vegas. Friends had been telling me about them for years, and it was time to find out what the fuss was all about. I was, to say the least, impressed.

Is the idea of Colorado Springs getting two of these joints really that big of a deal? Well, kind of. By my count, Las Vegas has 16 In-N-Out locations. The Salt Lake City area has five.

Why is it taking so long to get locations in Colorado? Well, first off, In-N-Out is not a franchise. According to a CBS interview, it is unlikely the chain will ever go public or offer franchise opportunities.

The only reason we would do that is for the money, and I wouldn't do that. My heart is totally connected to this company because of my family, and the fact that they are not here - I have a strong tie to keep this the way they would want it." - In-N-Out president Lynsi Snyder

Well, my fellow Coloradans, the wait is almost over. The first location is scheduled to open later this year. There can be little doubt the opening will be like opening night for an Avengers movie with lines around the block. The same can probably be said for the 2021 opening of the newly announced location. Between Manitou Incline and In-N-Out Burger, it seems a trip to the Colorado Springs region will soon be in order.
