What seemed like a spiritual experience turned out to be something much simpler and scientific.

A British engineer discovered the secret of the spinning statue was nothing more than miniscule vibrations from traffic and footsteps. The reason this statue, and not others, would spin is because the bulk of the weight was on one end of the statue making it more susceptible to vibration.

In an interview with Reuters, Engineer Steve Gosling said,

"The statue was rotating due to vibrations entering the display case. We installed an accelerometer and found that vibrations from both road traffic and footfall within the museum were the cause."

The statue was meant to be an offering to Osiris, ancient Egyptian god of the dead and ruler of the underworld.
