‘Mork & Mindy’ Outtakes Remind Us Why We Loved Robin Williams [VIDEO]
The tragic death of Robin Williams has many reflecting on their best memories of the great actor and comedian. For most, their first real exposure to Robin's genius was on the show 'Mork & Mindy'. These season one outtakes show just how incredibly gifted the actor was. Note: These clips have not been bleeped.
According to IMDB, during the making of 'Mork & Mindy', Williams departed from the scripts so many times and so well, that the producers stop trying to make him stick to the script and deliberately left gaps in the later scripts leaving only "Mork can go off here" in those places so Robin could improvise.
If you're thinking there was a Mork before Mindy, you're right. Mork from Ork was actually a character who got his start on a 'Happy Days' episode. When producer Garry Marshall asked Williams to sit down during the audition, he sat on his head on a chair. Marshall hired him saying he was the only alien who auditioned.
One more Mork & Mindy fun fact that made it even more personal for those of us living in Colorado. The city where the characters lived and worked was Boulder, Colo. The exterior shots of both the house and the bookstore seen in the series are real places in Boulder.
