As a strong proponent of live music, I went on record a lot during the COVID-19 lockdown I was desperate to see some live music. I believe a direct quote from me in October 2021 was: "Bruno Mars could be playing bongos outside the Coffee Trader, and I'd be happy to see him."

Yeah, it got worse for a while, there. But, now we're a little over a year out of total lockdown, and live music is starting to become more appealing to a lot more people. With that in mind, and specifically thinking about my comment about Bruno on Main Street, I got to wondering what Country superstars would be great to see live. Even better: which ones would be great to see locally?

So, we put the question on our Facebook page, and let me tell ya, we weren't the only ones who wanted to see some stars in Montrose! We asked Montrose to tell us what Country superstars they wanted to play in town, and we ended up with such a great response, we were able to put together an entire music festival! Hypothetical, of course.

Behold the Dream Montrose Music Festival: two nights of the most-wanted country stars, as voted on by Montrose, for Montrose. We put together three acts a night over two nights based on which talents were most requested. You never know, if we play our cards right, we might be able to shame some of them into booking a visit...

Night One Opener: Keith Urban

Mr. Nicole Kidman was technically tied with our Night 2 Opener as far as sheer votes, so we were really only tasked with determining which of these bonafide stars would kick off the festivities. We decided on Keith to kick things off because of the symbolism of him being able to play "Once in a Lifetime," which kinda sets the tone for the whole deal.

Night One Mid: Chris Stapleton

Chris Stapleton, as with all these musicians, could comfortably headline anywhere on his own, with no problem. He's THAT hot right now. Honestly, he could do it on the strength of his beard alone. Did we figure, out why hold off on such a great performance?

Night One Closer: Morgan Wallen

This time last year, it was entirely possible Morgan Wallen wouldn't be playing anything anywhere, after spending much of the year in time-out after some offensive comments made the news. But Morgan did the right thing, apologizing and taking his lumps, and all without complaint. His reward was coming out on the other side just as popular, if not more, as he was before his mistake. Morgan Wallen is, by a WIDE margin, the number one artist Montrose wants to see live, so he gets his chance to shine and close up Night 1!

Night Two Opener: Luke Bryan

Again, Luke Bryan tied with Keith Urban in the vote count, so we just had to decide who starts which night. Since the symbolism worked in Keith's favor to start Night 1, why not have Luke turn the "Country On" for Night 2? Just makes sense.

Night Two Mid: Jason Aldean

Quite a few folks in Montrose wanted to see Jason Aldean. I mean, he's only been one of the top names in Country music for the last 15 years or so. Why not? Let's just hope he leaves Brittany at home so we can enjoy the music, and nothing else. AND. NOTHING. ELSE.

Night Two Closer: George Strait

The only artist to come anywhere close to the number of requests for Morgan Wallen was Hall-of-Famer George Strait. And I think we just nailed it with that introduction: Hall-of-Famer George Strait. No contest on who gets to close the show!

Special Guest: Alan Jackson

Alan Jackson was the trickiest artist to get on this show. He received more votes than anyone other than George Strait and Morgan Wallen, yet it didn't feel right to put him in the middle of the show for some reason. He's a Hall-of-Famer too, after all. Since he also just won the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the CMAs this month, we figured he'd be best left as a special, surprise guest to shut down the whole dern thing!

Who Else Does Montrose Want to See?

As mentioned above, we put this festival together based on a question we asked on our Facebook page. These folks may have gotten the most votes, but they were far from the only stars the Montrose community wanted to see live in town. Here are some of the other comments we received, and as always, be sure to join the conversation with us on social media!
