Meet Jocko, Newest Addition to Montrose County Sheriff’s Office
There is a new addition to the Montrose County Sheriff's Office and his name is Jocko.
Jocko is a 14-month-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix and joins Tigo, a Belgian Shepherd, on the MCSO k-9 unit. Tigo was added to the Montrose force in 2019.
Jocko will be serving alongside Deputy Savage in the west end of Montrose County.
Currently, we have more than 100 police dogs working in Colorado. Their role changed just a bit last year when the state Supreme Court ruled that a dog trained to alert marijuana can not be used unless an officer has established probable cause. According to NPR, only about 20% of police dogs now have marijuana training, and that number is going down.
Here's a big western Colorado welcome to our newest crime fighter, Jocko.
