Watch Meat Loaf Join the ‘Bat Out of Hell’ Cast On Stage
Meat Loaf sang in public for the first time in two years during a surprise appearance with the cast of the Bat Out of Hell-themed stage musical this week.
He performed the classic track “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night),” leading the choruses while others took charge of the verses at the New York City Center.
You can watch the moment below:
“Okay, you guys have been wanting to do this long ago, so we’re going to do it now,” Meat Loaf said before the song began. "Give me a little, ‘You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth!’” He was joined by cast members Andrew Polec, Lena Hall, Christina Bennington, Danielle Steers and Tyrick Wiltez Jones.
This comeback follows a number of health problems, but a back injury appears to have been the main impediment to remaining in action.
“You use everything to sing, and I just cannot do it," he said last year. "I mean, I'm tough as nails ... I've had 18 concussions and nothing, nothing has ever put me down.” He was ultimately forced to deny that he is now unable to sing. “Morons! I’m going, ‘Before you make a comment, learn something about music. Learn something about tone,'" Meat Loaf told Rolling Stone. "People saying, ‘You can’t sing anymore.’ I mean, Okay, I can’t get up to the B’s anymore, but I can still hit the high C’s, and A is a really strong note, too.”
Meat Loaf also suffered a shoulder injury after falling during a Q&A session earlier this year. The Bat Out of Hell musical runs until Sept. 8.
