The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks women's basketball team puts its unbeaten record on the line tonight when they host the Mountaineers of Western State Colorado University.  The Mavericks moved to 14-0 overall and 10-0 in conference play with road victories last weekend against two of the better teams in the RMAC, CSU Pueblo and UC Colorado Springs. It's the best start for women's basketball in school history, and the best start since the 1998-99 season, when under the direction of Steven Kirkham, the Mavs started 11-0, and went on to win the RMAC title with a 22-6 record.

These Mavericks have moved to the #7 ranking in the  USA Today/WBCA Coaches' Poll and are the only team in the RMAC to crack the top 25.

The Mountaineers are looking to play the role of giant slayer tonight entering the contest with a record of 1-13 and riding a six game losing streak.

Meanwhile, the Maverick men's basketball team continues to enjoy great success through the first half of the season, entering tonight's game with a record of 11-3 overall, and 8-2 in the RMAC, good for 4th place behind Metro State, Adams State, and Ft. Lewis.

The Mavericks have won four games in a row and are unbeaten so far this season in 6 games at Browson Arena.

Western State comes in at 7-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play. Last season these two Western Colorado rivals split the season series with the Mountaineers winning by one point, and the Mavericks wining by three.

Tonight's action at Brownson Arena begins at 5:30 tonight with the women's game followed at about 7:30 by the men's match up. You can hear the games on the radio at AM 1230 KEXO,  and on line at www.kexo1230.com
