James Taylor proved he has the ability to take a great song and make it even better. His performance of 'Your Smiling Face' on the Today Show proves it.

Taylor's jazzy, funky rendition of the song was a cool way to open his set, which also included songs from his new album, 'Before This World.'

The singer-songwriter first hit the Billboard charts in 1970 with 'Fire and Rain,' a song that peaked at #3.

1971 gave Taylor his only #1 with 'You've Got a Friend.' Other hits include, the duet with Carly Simon, 'Mockingbird,' 'How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)' and 'Handy Man.'

'Your Smiling Face' was the 1977 follow-up to 'Handy Man.' Even though the song only reached #20, it has become one of the mainstays and fan favorites over the years and this jazzed up version of the song adds a cool funky groove that even long time fans can appreciate.
