While it's extremely discouraged that you attempt to visit or explore any of these old, abandoned places on your own due to the fact that it's not only dangerous but also, in many cases, illegal, it's fascinating embarking on a virtual tour from the comfort of your home.

One of these relics from Colorado's infancy is located just outside of Paradox, Colorado, a town that sits right on the Utah border and serves as an interesting, yet dangerous, blast from the state's past.

Colorado's Paradox Mines: Fascinating Yet Dangerous

The town of Paradox, Colorado, was founded in the mid-1800s during the state's mining boom and was named for the curious manner of the Dolores River.

While Paradox was originally a hot spot for copper mining, it wasn't long before uranium was discovered in the area and the focus of the operations shifted.

Today, Paradox is almost a ghost town, with a reported 200 residents as of 1991, but plenty of remnants of the past still occupy the area.

As you'll see below, there are at least three abandoned mines near the unincorporated Colorado town, one of which is accompanied by a massive, deteriorated building.
