However, sometimes the homeless get creative in order to live some semblance of what they may have known as a "normal life," and one example of this came to fruition roughly a year ago in the form of a streetside bar, albeit operating illegally, that was created, operated, and patronized by members of the Colorado homeless community.
A Look Back at a Homeless Bar That Operated in Colorado Last Year
As Colorado's capital and largest city, Denver is no stranger to serving as a home for many homeless individuals.
While encampments filled with tents are considered fairly common, the sidewalk bordering the corner of 23rd and Champa in the Mile High City grew into something that certainly wasn't commonplace in the area - an illegal bar built and operated by the homeless.
This creation featured plenty of liquor, plenty of comfortable seating in the form of couches and recliners, and even astroturf, all surrounded by various tents.
However, the authorities in Denver received numerous complaints regarding the bar and even allegations of prostitution taking place in the tents surrounding it and thus took action and dismantled the entire operation.
Despite being totally illegal and possibly immoral by some standards, it is fascinating to look back at what this homeless community had accomplished, even for a short period of time.
