History has shown again and again that if a sport, or even a game that began as a fun activity to participate in at barbecues, becomes popular enough it's very likely that things like leagues will begin to pop up, colleges will introduce them as intermural sports, and there's even the potential for them to be added to the Olympics.

Now, it appears that the game of cornhole is gaining so much popularity in Colorado and beyond that not only are teams showing up in colleges, but a pair of teenagers from the Centennial State have officially become the recipients of the first-ever cornhole scholarships.

Colorado Teens Awarded First-Ever Scholarships in Cornhole

While some backyard games have fallen by the wayside, (we're looking at you, lawn darts,) the game in which participants toss bags of sand onto boards with hopes of landing in a hole has taken off in a big way, especially in Colorado.

Cornhole, as it's referred to in Colorado, has been more than a backyard party game for teenagers Jaxson Remmick and Gavin Hamann as their skills and the notoriety they've gained from it have resulted in the pair being awarded the first-ever scholarship of its kind.

The team began gaining notoriety after winning the American Cornhole League National High School Championships two years in a row, which attracted the attention of South Carolina's Winthrop University.

Upon accepting the scholarships, Remmick and Hamann's collegiate future was decided as not only do they plan to play for Winthrop, but 60% of their tuition will be covered by the scholarships.

This landmark decision more than likely solidifies cornhole's rise to the ranks of being more than just a backyard barbecue game, especially in Colorado.
