What Was Colorado's Bonny Lake State Park?

For many years, Bonny Lake State Park was considered Colorado's easternmost state park, located near the town of Burlington right on the Kansas border.

Originally established in 1966, the park was known for boating, fishing, and many other fun activities for the whole family.

However, less than a decade prior to the park opening to the public, a tragedy took the life of an employee named Irving Robert Poley whose memorial you can view in full below.

Unfortunately for those who enjoyed visits to Bonny Lake State Park, the park officially closed for good in 2011 following the park's namesake lake being drained.

What is Colorado's Abandoned Bonny Lake State Park Like Now?

Today, the area that once served as Bonny Lake State Park is known as the South Republican State Wildlife Area.

However, many remnants of the park have been left behind to rot including the old visitor's center, the old boat ramp, what appears to be an altar of some sort, numerous old signs, and more.
