However, the Twelve Tribes is far from the only infamous cult to have a presence in Colorado as another religious group once had a massive compound in the state for a number of years that is now sitting abandoned.
The Living Word Fellowship's Colorado Presence + Abandonment
Founded in 1951, The Living Word Fellowship has long been the subject of controversy due to alleged sexual abuse of minors, child labor, and a variety of other nefarious practices that if true, categorize the group as nothing short of a dangerous cult.

The group, known to relocate swiftly and frequently, took over an old Salvation Army camp just outside of Colorado Springs in the 1980s. The 28-acre compound was used to house hundreds of its members and served as a setting for as many as 17 church services per week.
The compound, located near Palmer Lake, was surprisingly offered up to local government agencies by the fellowship in 2020 and after accepting the group's offer, was completely abandoned by its members after as many as four decades.
While numerous ideas of how to repurpose the property have been discussed, the land and its many buildings currently sit completely abandoned. Keep scrolling to take a look at what the property looks like today:
