The original Nintendo Game Boy used four AA batteries, and it burned through them faster than ice melts in July in Grand Junction. While I no longer go through batteries now like I did in 1989, I still need a place to dispose of them safely.

Where is the best place to take used, unwanted batteries in Grand Junction? Let's keep it simple. You have two or three options.

When batteries start to pile up, where can you go to get rid of them? While some people slam dunk their alkaline batteries in the trash can, Colorado knows the chemicals can leak into the ground. Instead, bring your used, unwanted batteries to the Mesa County Hazardous Waste Collection Facility (3071 US-50 in Grand Junction).

You can drop off alkaline, lithium, NiCad batteries here Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The limit per visit is five gallons or 50 pounds. The disposal rate is $0.80 per pound.

It might seem like a good idea to run a tub of batteries over to the City of Grand Junction Recycling Division in-person Recycling Drop Off, but it is not. Batteries and light bulbs are not accepted there, so you'll need to take them to the Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.
