Cremation Gone Wrong?

Officials believe that Garber was attempting to cremate his dog when he trespassed on private property on August 1st, 2024. An affidavit containing a report from Police Cmdr. Bruce Schmalz says Garber was spotted riding in an ATV in the area where the fire started that day. The fire was traced to a dugout area Garber used to cremate his dog recently put down following a municipal court order. A small stone above the dugout allegedly read, "Rocket Dog. Rest in Peace Buddy."

Can You Cremate Your Pets in Colorado?

It is not against the law to cremate your pet at home in Colorado, but the city and county you live in may have their guidelines or penalties. According to trupointmemorials.com, cremating a small animal at home will require wood, charcoal, and likely a stump remover with Potassium nitrate to create the heat necessary to turn the animal to ashes. Do you have the space for this? Check with your community officials before considering this option.
