Colorado: A Popular Montrose Park Is About to Change

Western Colorado continues to invest in parks and public places, and Cerise Park in Montrose is a great example. Far more than a place to kick a soccer ball, the 12-acre site connects to Riverbottom Park and Sunset Mesa through concrete recreation trails.

Upcoming wildfire mitigation and improvements are planned for Cerise Park and Riverbottom Park in Montrose from September 14 to October 12. For people walking or biking through the area, families using the fields, and dog owners heading to the nearby off-leash park, access may change at times over the next few weeks.

Work will begin on the northeast side of the park and move south. Cones, flagging, equipment, workers, and closure signs will make it easy to see which sections of the park to avoid. If Cerise is part of your routine, the good news is that the closures will be in sections. The space connects with three major park areas, so if a section you frequent is being worked on, other areas of the Baldridge Regional Park complex will likely be open.

Which Parts of Cerise Park Will Be Affected?

If you play disc golf at Cerise, the Recreation District says baskets 10–16 will remain closed throughout the project. The baskets will be temporarily removed and reinstalled once work is complete. For updates and announcements about work in the park, follow the Montrose Recreation District. This includes any necessary closures to the Cerise Dog Park.

Wait, there's more good news. Montrose received a $330,000 grant through congressionally designated funds, administered by the State Forest Service, to help pay for the Cerise Park Fuels Project.  The city says all guests should not approach equipment or trimming operations. The equipment is loud, and trimming may result in falling trees.
