Boating Season in Colorado
The start of boating season in Colorado follows the spring thaw and happens at different times of the year depending on a lake or reservoir's location. Some bodies of water thaw by mid-March, while others aren't ready until April or May. In Colorado, a person may drive a boat by age 15 once they have completed a boat safety course approved by the Colorado Boating Law Administration.
Colorado's Largest Marinas
While Colorado's Blue Mesa Reservoir offers the most surface area for boats during the summer months it's not the easiest place to get to. The Federal Highway Safety Administration has closed the Highway 50 bridge for repairs leaving half the state unable to reach some of the reservoir's marinas.

Colorado's Pueblo Reservoir offers 5,399 surface acres for boats and more than 900 slips for watercraft between the North and South marinas.
Colorado's 'Great Lakes'
Another popular spot for boats in the Centennial State is the area around Grand Lake. There are 5 neighboring lakes nearby and many offer daily boat rentals and pontoons for enjoying the water and the views of Rocky Mountain National Park in the distance.
