New List Puts Denver in Top 12 of Beer Cities
With all the cities across America known for beer, having Denver fall on a list with only 12 recommended cites can make all Coloradans proud.
It's funny how you can find out about a city you've known all of your life, by it being on some "list." This list may reveal to you, as it did me, things about the Denver beer scene that I had no idea of.
For example, have you heard of a "slow pour pilsner?"
Denver Colorado Among 12 Beer Cities to Visit
The gang at Chowhound.com, who specialize in food, drinks, recipes and such, released a list in October of 2024 of 12 U.S. cities to visit if you enjoy beer. A simple dozen cities to go to, including the Mile High City.
Other cities on the list of 12:
- San Diego.
- Chicago.
- Portland.
- New York City.
- New Orleans.
- Los Angeles.
- Portland, Maine.
- Asheville, N.C.
- Pittsburgh.
- Richmond.
I see a lot of "coastal" cities on that list; having a "fly over states" city on the list, and it being Denver, is interesting.

Why Chowhound Puts Denver on Their List of 12 Beer Cities to Visit:
- The Great American Beer Festival. GABF has been happening in October since 1982, highlighting the greatest beers; if you love beer and crowds, it's an event you need to do, at least once.
- Innovations in Beer. With beer being so old, it's hard to believe that there's more that can be created, but Bierstadt Lagerhaus created "slow pout pilsner." I'd never heard of it until writing this article.
- Cerebral Brewing.
- Denver Beer Company.
- Crooked Stave.
- Cohesion.
