In their 32nd season, the Colorado Rockies have had some serious struggles, and to the surprise of absolutely nobody, are now officially eliminated from this year's MLB Postseason. We've only been to the playoffs five times in 32 seasons...

Colorado Rockies History In Denver

I was there in 1993 when the Rockies made their highly anticipated debut at the old Mile High Stadium. We didn't get to opening day, but we were there on opening weekend. It was against the former Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals).

The home of the Denver Broncos was the temporary home of the Colorado Rockies (while Coors Field was being built), and what a first season it was. Getting to experience Major League Baseball live for the first time for many in Colorado was a real treat.

The Rockies set a record for attendance in an MLB stadium, with nearly 5 million fans packing Mile High Stadium to watch our brand-new baseball team in their debut season. That record still stands to this day. The games were fun, the players were fantastic, and Colorado fully embraced the Rockies.

Fast-forward 32 years, and in over thirty years, our beloved Colorado Rockies have only made the MLB Postseason five times. Yes, you can literally count on one hand how many times we've had Rockies baseball in October.

Of those five, we've only made it to the World Series one time, in 2007, when the Boston Red Sox embarrassingly swept us in four games. It was a heartbreaker in the great state of Colorado, and 17 years later, it still stings.

We've had the talent, we've had the fan support year after year, and we have one of the greatest Ballparks in the world, but here we are again, officially eliminated from playoff contention for the 27th time in our 32-year history.

Does only making it to the MLB Postseason five times in 32 years make us one of the worst teams in baseball history? It kind of feels like it. And for the first time in many years, the fans are showing their displeasure more than ever by simply not supporting the team.

Attendance is way down, with some games having less than 20k fans in the 50k-capacity stadium. Because of its fantastic location, Coors Field doesn't typically have issues packing the ballpark, regardless of what's happening on the field, but this season was different. They were even offering monthly passes where you could attend every home game for a month for less than $50 a person.

They also lost their main TV Broadcast partner, Root Sports, at the end of last season which cut TV viewership way down too. The bottom line is that this team has never been less relevant, and it's sad because we LOVE our Colorado Rockies.

There's nothing like a live game at Coors Field, but eventually, you get tired of spending all the money on tickets, merch, parking, food & drink, etc., just to be let down time and time again.

As someone who's loved the Rockies since I was 7 years old, the same age as my son, who also loves the Rockies, I hope they can right the ship and make Rockies baseball relevant and fun to watch once again. Go Rockies.

10 Favorite Colorado Rockies Players of All-Time

Some truly great players have worn the Rockies uniform, however, you'll find only one in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. We could have a discussion about the greatest Colorado Rockies players ever, or we could have a more subjective talk about favorite players. While there is some crossover, there is a difference and there is a lot of room to be different.
