Railroad Repair to Bring Big Detours to Northern Colorado for 2 Weeks

While the work that needs to be done in Windsor is important, a lot of travelers in Northern Colorado are going to feel a lot of frustration.

Upwards of 20,000 vehicles use Main Street in Windsor every day, which is state Highway 392. A large portion of that 20,000 are truckers going from I-25 to Highway 85 and vice versa. For many years, the Town of Windsor has been trying to figure out how to ease the traffic congestion related to OTR rigs; for two weeks in October of 2025, the town will see a marked decrease in truckers along Main Street.

With our radio stations broadcasting from 600 Main Street in Windsor, we get a first-hand look at the amount of truckers, along with busses, that use Highway 392; some of them rumble the windows of our studios. It'll be weird to not see them go by for two weeks; it may seem "too quiet."

When Will Colorado Highway 392 be Detoured in Windsor, Colorado?

According to the Town of Windsor, the town, along with Great Western Railway and Colorado Department of Transportation will be making "urgent" railroad track replacements on the east end of town from October 13 through October 24, 2025. This project will fix malfunctioning crossing gates, enhancing overall safety.

That work will mean shutting down the railroad crossing to all traffic for 11-12 days (two work weeks,) forcing traffic to be detoured. While there is no information about where the detours will be, I would think that eastbound will be detoured at 4th Street and westbound at 1st Street, with both detouring south to Walnut for two blocks to get back to Main.

For traffic that wants to avoid those detours, they'll probably want to avoid Highway 392 between Highway 257 and Weld County Road 17, all together; taking Weld County Road 74 (Harmony Road) or Highway 34 won't be easier, but it may be quicker.
