New Owners Bring Fresh Hope To The Colorado Rockies
It was news that reverberated across the State of Colorado that simultaneously seemed so obvious, yet nobody saw coming.
The Penner Sports Group - AKA Greg Penner and his wife Carrie Walton Penner - have purchased 40% of the Colorado Rockies in a massive upgrade to the ownership group for the Rockies. While the Monfort family are still majority owners and will continue to run the team, the entrance of the Penners to the group should pay dividends for the ailing MLB franchise.

The Penners have made names for themselves in Colorado in relatively short order, since purchasing the Denver Broncos from the late Pat Bowlen's family trust back in 2022. In addition to the Penners, that group is led by Rob Walton - Carrie's father - and also includes notable figures like Condaleeza Rice and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton.
The Broncos were struggling on and off the field after the health of Pat Bowlen declined in the mid 2010s, ultimately passing away in 2019. Nobody knew what to make of the new owners when they got to town, but they've invested significant personal money into the community and the team since their arrival.

Perhaps second to none is their commitment to the players and to winning, something Pat Bowlen himself was all about for so many years and was lacking after his day-to-day stewardship of the team ended.
Question is whether or not the Penners will be able to sprinkle some of that same magic on the Rockies, who have seen some pretty dismal years since their last playoff appearance in 2018.
