
Take a Look at Breckenridge’s Amazing Annual Snow Sculpting Event
Each year teams from all over the world converge in Breckenridge, Colorado to show off their snow sculpting skills. Spectators from not only Summit County but from Denver, the Front Range, and the Western Slope show up to take awe.
Expert Snow Sculptures Come to Summit County Every Winter
They say that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become a master/expert at something. The artists that come to Colorado each year must put in at least that many hours to turn 12-foot tall, 25 ton generic blocks of snow into pieces that amaze. No power tools are allowed, that's why it takes about five days for the teams to create their masterpieces.

For the last week of January every year, Breckenridge, as the event organizers say, does become an outdoor art gallery with these sculptures. Spectators are allowed to watch the sculpting, and see the completed pieces, all for free during the week of the event. The event makes the town even more beautiful than it already is.

2026 marked the 35th annual International Snow Sculpture Championships, where a dozen teams competed for not only the judges' awards but for the People's Choice Awards as well. 2026 included two teams from America (Breckenridge & Vermont,) teams from Argentina, Ukraine, Italy, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, the Republic of Korea, Malta, and Mongolia, also competed.
