I can't even believe it, but we actually did indeed get the snow predicted by the beautiful and shiny weather people. And the experts at Xcel Energy are making sure they're as prepared as possible for heavy snow and those pesky power outages.

As a lifelong Coloradoan, I guess I'm used to hearing the weatherman say we're going to get snow and always feeling let down when it never comes. In fact, I was just reading on the 9News website that in some parts of Northern Colorado, Xcel Energy is preparing for this random winter storm by keeping their crew on call and ready to rock in case trees start falling.

Here are some tips on how to stay safe out there

  • Make sure you buy all of the toilet paper at the grocery store.
  • Have non-perishable food on hand.
  • Choose which pet you're going to eat if things get really bad.
  • Thermal clothes...nuff said.
  • Keep flashlights and batteries on hand.

Okay, maybe I'm being a little dramatic, but I was here for the blizzard of 1998, and it got really bad, really fast. The good news is that local meteorologists say the worst-case scenario is gardens and flowers getting a little beaten up.

Seriously, this is what you really should know about this storm

  • Xcel Energy has 165 employees on call, just in case heavy, wet snow poses a real threat.
  • Northern Colorado should only get 3-6 inches, so I guess buying all of the toilet paper would be a slight overreaction.
  • There is no need to eat your pets. I repeat, don't eat your pets.

Stay safe out there, NOCO.

5 Things You Should Do If You Hate Driving In The Snow

There are many reasons to hate driving in the snow.

Snow creates a high potential for dangerous road conditions, produces less-than-decent drivers (who probably aren't decent drivers, to begin with - but that's a conversation for another time), often adds travel time to your trip - the list goes on.

Maybe you don't mind driving in the snow, maybe it doesn't even phase you when it snows (can't relate) - BUT if you need to be out and about on a snow day and you hate driving in the snow, here are five things you could try - or should try - do to, essentially cope with the fact that you can't stop mother nature from bringing snow to Colorado.
