It's inevitable that if you drive through Fort Collins, you're probably going to see a billboard asking for info on the unsolved murder of a man named Paul Gallenstein. But what's the story behind the billboards?

Here's what happened

On September 10, 2023, Paul Gallenstein went for a walk on the Foothill Trail at Reservoir Ridge Natural Area and was shot. He died at the age of 64.

Around 10:18 p.m., his body was found by a passerby, and 911 was called. But it was too late.

At first, the police were calling the incident suspicious, but after Larimer County conducted an investigation, suspicion was bumped up to potential homicide.

What the investigators know

  • No firearm was recovered at or around the scene
  • A recent heavy rainstorm and an overgrowth of vegetation made the investigation difficult.
  • Detectives conducted multiple interviews and extensive forensic testing.

Reward

The Gallenstein family is currently offering a $50,000 reward for information that will lead to the resolution of the case.

If you were near Foothills Ridge at Reservoir Ridge between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on September 10th of 2023, the detectives want to talk to you. No tip is too small.

About Paul

Paul moved from Ohio to Fort Collins, graduated from high school, and got a degree from CSU. Paul married his wife, Cindy, in August of 1987, and together they built a life.

While Paul didn't have his own children, he was said to be a mentor to many young people.

So the next time you drive by a Paul Gallenstein billboard, say a prayer that something will be found so his family can have peace at last.
