This Gross and Invasive Insect Has Returned to Northern Colorado
Ew, what is that?!
That might be something you hear in Northern Colorado soon. That is because an insect that is known as an invasive species has been found in Colorado and the city of Fort Collins is letting residents know that these gross little guys are a problem.
We all know that grasshoppers are a major problem in the summer, but this bug could potentially be a problem year-round.
Emerald Ash Borer Spotted in Northern Colorado
Despite their weirdly elegant name, the emerald ash borer is an incredibly invasive insect and their destructive tendencies are a big reason why city officials in Fort Collins are worried.
The city of Fort Collins says that the emerald ash borer was been spotted within city limits and they are taking measures to eliminate the species.
The emerald ash borer will take out more than your plants and garden. This insect has no problem laying their eggs in tree bark. Then the insect will use the inner bark of a tree as food and it will ultimately kill the tree.
I know many people take pride in the trees in their lawns and neighborhoods, and it would be a shame to see them damaged.
What the City of Fort Collins Recommends
The emerald ash borer is expected to spread throughout Colorado. Fort Collins recommends being proactive about the invasive insect.
If you have an ash tree, the city recommends that you reach out to an arborist to inspect the tree and see if you need to come up with a game plan to keep it healthy.
