Today, (October 1) is National Homemade Cookie Day. As a self-professed cookie monster, I love all kinds of cookies, especially homemade ones. I know what my favorites are, but what is your favorite cookie to bake and eat?

Nationally, the favorite is the chocolate chip cookie, invented in the 1930s by Ruth Graves Wakefield owner of the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts. The cookie was originally called the 'Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookie' and became nationally popular after the recipe was published in a 1938 cookbook.

Other home baked cookie favorites include oatmeal raisin, sugar and peanut butter.
