For parents who have normal children, it's hard to understand what it would be like to see your child suffer from a debilitating disease. This loving dad, willing to to anything to bring some normalcy to his daughter's life, helps her perform in a pageant.

McKenzie Carey is 12 years old and suffers from a rare condition called Mitochondrial Disease.

According to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, mitochondria are specialized compartments present in every cell of the body except red blood cells and are responsible for creating more than 90% of the energy needed by the body to sustain life and support growth. When they fail, less and less energy is generated within the cell. Cell injury and even cell death follow.

Since there is no cure for this disease, Kenzie's parents have resorted to expensive experimental treatments. Just as important, is the fact they willing to make loving sacrifices and in this case, even risk embarrassment, to help their child do things the rest of us wouldn't give a second thought about.
