It doesn't seem to matter how hot the summer sun gets here in western Colorado, the weeds in my back yard always seem to flourish. In fact, it seems the hotter and drier it is, the taller the weeds grow. I keep thinking I need to get out there and do something about  them, but there always seems to be something else more pressing. Either that or I just don't feel like doing it.  Plus, there's the little detail of buying weed killer. Have you seen the price of that stuff? I have a hard time bringing myself to shell out the big bucks for something like week killer. So I was delighted to see on Facebook a home made week killer that, if it works, will cost me a slight fraction of what a gallon of Round Up would be.

I don't know if it really works, but I am willing to give it a try. Here's the recipe.

What you'll need is one gallon of white vinegar, 1/2 cup of salt, and liquid dish soap.

Put salt in an empty spray bottle and fill the bottle with vinegar. Then add a squirt of the liquid dish soap, and you're ready to tackle those pesky weeds.

They say it works best on a really hot day. Guess what? Weed killing conditions should be ideal in western Colorado for the next several weeks. No doubt we will have plenty of hot, scorching days to work with. Spray the weeds in the morning, and as the temperature heats up the wees should begin to wilt.

Will this work? I don't know, but in my book vinegar is pretty nasty stuff and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it would kill anything it touches. But I'm going to give it a try and see what happens. There is no grass  i my backyard to worry about, so I figure I have nothing to lose.
