The first round of the "food drive challenge" broadcasts proved to be a huge hit, with truckloads of donations coming in to support the Community Food Bank of Grand Junction. That's one down, several to go. Take a look at the results of your generous donations.

The Carville's Community Challenge made its first stop Saturday at the Safeway at 29 Road and Patterson. Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Western Colorado came out in force to donate non-perishable food items and cash.

When it was all said and done, it took a couple of trips in the Community Food Bank's truck to deliver all the donations. Several generous cash donations were received, every penny of which will be matched by Carville's Auto Mart.

At one point in time, for reasons not entirely understood, a chicken showed up to take part in the festivities. As chickens have been known to do, it paused long enough to make a donation and take a selfie.

This was Round one of four. The crew will be out and about over the next month at other Safeway and Albertson's stores, taking donations for the food bank.

  • November 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Safeway on Horizon Drive
  • December 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Albertson's on Broadway
  • December 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Albertson's on 12th Street

Every donation stays local! That's right, the items you donate stay right here, feeding hard working families in Western Colorado.

Everyone who donates will receive a certificate for a free entree at Costa Vida. While we on location for the food drive, register to win a pair of tickets to Country Jam, tickets to the Moscow Ballet, or even passes to Crested Butte. You DO NOT need to donate to register to win prizes.

Well done Grand Junction! Please make plans to visit one of our upcoming stops. The next time you hit the store, please pick up a few extra items, and donate knowing you'll be helping out your friends and neighbors in Western Colorado.
