Citing a lack of confidence in the current school administration, the Steamboat Springs School board has hired a former FBI agent to head an inquiry into sexual misconduct and other charges at the school.

Jane Quimby of Quimby and Associates in Grand Junction was hired to look into complaints that female students are being ignored concerning sexual harassment, assault and the sexualization of girls in the school.

During the investigation, the principal, Kevin Taulman, will be on administrative leave.

During a school board meeting in December, three families spoke about the culture in the school saying the school failed to act on sexual assault between students and the sexualization of the girls in the school.

One parent said the principal has created a climate of "fear and intimidation" against students who try to speak out.

Adding the former FBI agent to determine what is transpiring will give those who have been afraid to speak out a voice.
