Multiple deputies were assaulted at the Larimer County Jail by an inmate who refused to comply during standard lockdown protocol.

According to an official press release from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old inmate, Dontre Woods, refused multiple staff orders to return to his cell to lockdown last Friday (July 16th) at about 6:30 p.m.

As deputies attempted to gain control of Woods, the inmate reportedly punched one deputy in the face, resulting in injury.

Woods actively resisted and threatened to continue to assault jail staff as deputies continued the attempt to gain control of the inmate, as per the press release.

In order to safely gain control of the inmate, deputies utilized a taser to put a stop to Woods' non-compliant behavior; as handcuffs were being applied to the inmate, Woods actively fought against jail staff.

Woods would not resist and continued to fight jail staff; an additional deputy sustained an injury to their leg as a result of the incident.

Once Woods was safely secured, he was checked by medical staff and cleared of any injury.

The two deputies injured during the assault at the Larimer County Jail were transported to a local hospital and received treatment for their injuries; according to the press release, both deputies were cleared to return to work.

In regards to the July 16 incident, deputies will seek two new felony assault charges against Woods for assaulting peace officers during the incident.

Dontre Woods was arrested by Fort Collins Police Services and booked into the Larimer County Jail on Dec. 2 2020 on the following charges:

  • First Degree Possession of Contraband
  • Pattern of Racketeering
  • Pattern of Racketeering - Participating in an Enterprise
  • Felony Menacing
  • 2nd Degree Burglary
  • Criminal Mischief with Explosive
  • Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor
  • Aggravated Robbery
  • Unlawful Distribution
  • Two counts of Theft
  • 2nd Degree Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

As per the press release, the charges against Dontre Woods are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
