People from western Colorado who fly to Denver for a connecting flight probably already know this. Denver International Airport, especially during the winter months, can be an aggravating place.We have pretty limited choices when it comes to flying out of Grand Junction Regional Airport, so it's likely at some point DIA will be the place you'll land, especially if you're heading east.

According to a recent survey of travel agents by Travel Leaders Group, Denver ranks #7 when it comes to airport hubs to avoid for connecting flights.

In addition to it's own issues, DlA is also faced with the fact many of it's flights route through some of the worst airports for connecting flights including Chicago O'Hare (#1).

Experts say many people only look for the cheapest ticket and many times that means  connecting flights through major hubs. But, it also increases the possibility of more delays and cancellations. So, if you absolutely have to reach your destination on time, look for the best connections and not the least expensive flights.

The top 10 worst airports for flight connections, according to Travel Leaders Group:

  3. Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International
  4. New York La Guardia
  5. Newark Liberty International
  6. Miami International
  7. Denver International
  8. Philadelphia International
