Dear Wyoming, I Was Wrong and I Have to Say I’m Sorry
For as many years as I can remember I have made disparaging comments about the state of Wyoming, but now I must say that I was wrong. For that, I have to say I'm sorry. I hope my letter of apology will right the wrong, and somehow make up for the grief I have caused.
Dear Wyoming,
For 40 years I have lived right next to you. For longer than that I have wondered why anyone in their right mind would ever want to live in Wyoming. Of all the states in the country, only three have been on my list of states where I would not live. You have been one of the three.
Sure, much of Wyoming is barren and desolate. You can't deny there are some towns that smell bad. The constant wind in some places is completely depressing. And you can't argue the Wyoming winters can be harsh, bitter, unpleasant, and nasty.
Yet, for all warts that I can find on Wyoming's nose. Despite all the things that are wrong with you. One trip to western Wyoming has forever changed my perception of your fine state.
It took me over 53 years, but I finally made my way to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. In a single moment of time, you took my breath away.
The majesty and beauty of the Tetons parallel anything one might find in any state in the country. Seeing the wildlife at both parks was an absolute thrill, and I wondered what took me so long to get here.
All I can say, Wyoming, is that I was wrong. I have been wrong about you my entire life. You're not so bad after all. In fact, you're not bad at all. You're beautiful and pretty special. I hope that you will accept my apology for all the terrible things I have said and thought about you over the years.
In your honor, I have created a brief video that displays some of your wonders. The photos are awesome souvenirs of my Wyoming trip. They can't compare to what it's like to see you up close and in person.
I will forever encourage anyone who has not experienced Yellowstone and the Tetons to get it on their bucket list as soon as possible.
Thank you, Wyoming, for your understanding and forgiveness - and for being such a gracious host on my visit. Believe it or not, I can hardly wait until I get to see you once again.
Sincerely,
Zane
