For those who have survived winter storms in Colorado, there are certain things you need to make sure you get done, if possible, BEFORE the first storm hits.

YOUR CAR:

Check your tires, make sure they're in good condition, good tread, no bare spots and properly inflated. With the new traction laws in place in the high country, make sure you have chains, too. Make sure you have a good battery as well. COld can sap up to 60% of your battery's power and the last thing you need on a cold, snowy morning is a dead battery.

YOUR HOUSE:

If you have a sprinkler system, make sure it's cleared out, usually by the end of September. Disconnect all hoses from their spigots and cap the spigot. Trim tree branches that look like they may be getting low because, as you know, heavy snow can bring down tree limbs, and that's no way to wake up. Storm windows should also be in by now.

TRAVELING:

Check the road conditions. Doing so can save you a lot of time and a huge headache. If it's snowing hard, leave with plenty of time to drive at a safe speed to get you to work on time.

Have a fun and safe winter!
