Two people have died in the last three weeks at Breckenridge Ski Resort.

On February 7th, a 56-year-old man from Austin, Texas suffered a heart attack while on Peak 9, according to the coroner's office. Breckenridge Ski Patrol recovered Stephen Piche from an ungroomed trail and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital of natural causes.

On January 20 a 45-year-old woman from Virginia was killed in what was described as a "serious incident."  The Ski Patrol responded to an incident on Peak 8, an intermediate trail, where the woman had been injured. Shirley Louangamath was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood where she died. The Summit County Coroner's Office said the death was accidental and caused by traumatic heart failure due to blunt force trauma.

That makes at least 6 deaths on Colorado ski slopes this season. According to Colorado Ski Country USA, the state averages 11 skiing related deaths each year.
