Colorado Pot Tasting Rooms Get Governor’s Veto

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has vetoed a bill, passed by the legislature, that would have allowed dispensaries to have their own tasting rooms.

Though recreational marijuana is legal in Colorado, the 2012 bill that made it legal still prohibits the use of pot "openly" or "publicly", and that is the crux of the governor's decision, according to Westword.

Had the legislation passed, dispensaries would still have had to gotten approval from state and local governments for the tasting rooms.

It seems inevitable that the day will come when dispensaries will be able to offer sampling much the same way that wineries do, but that day still lies in the future.

In Denver, where pot shops have multiplied like rabbits, businesses that don't sell marijuana are not prohibited from having marijuana consumption areas, however, it's apparently a difficult process. In the year since the ordinance passed, only one business has experienced a successful application.

Undoubtedly, this is not the end of the road for such legislation, nor have we heard the last of it.  There are plenty of groups in the state and the legislature that favor public pot sampling and it's likely the issue will resurface when the Colorado legislature reconvenes.
