The hot start by the Colorado Mesa Mavericks football team has propelled them into the top 25 national rankings.

The Mavericks are ranked 23rd nationally in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' Poll, which was released on Monday.

With a record of 6-1, the Mavericks are off to their best start since 2007 when they won the first eight games of the season and went to make an appearance in the NCAA Playoffs.

Two other RMAC schools are also ranked in the top 25. CSU Pueblo is ranked #6, while Colorado School of Mines is at #7. Both of those teams are still to come on CMU's schedule.

Coming off a 52-26 homecoming win over Western New Mexico, their 5th straight win, the Mavericks will be in Durango this Saturday to take on the 4-3 Fort Lewis Skyhawks.
