Colorado Fire Restrictions Lifted: Where You Can Build a Campfire
If camping in western Colorado is the plan for the Labor Day holiday weekend, there's good news. Fire restrictions will be lifted in some areas by this weekend. Before lighting the logs, you need to know exactly when and where it will be legal to have a campfire.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office, City of Grand Junction, and Mesa County Fire Chief's Association are lifting Stage 1 fire restrictions in Mesa County.
The Bureau of Land Management is also lifting Stage 1 and Stage 2 fire restrictions in Mesa County and parts of BLM managed land in Garfield County. Restrictions will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 31.
Officials in Montrose County have announced they will be lifting fire restrictions on Friday, August 31 at 12:01 a.m. The Bureau of Land Management Uncompahgre Field Office says fire restrictions on BLM lands in Montrose, San Miguel, Ouray, Delta and Gunnison counties will also be lifted on August 31.
The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests will be lifting fire restrictions effective at 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 31. The Forest Service is asking that fires only be built in established fire rings.
Fire restrictions in Colorado State Parks typically mirror those of the county they are in. However, it is advised to check current restrictions for the State Park you will be visiting.
Even though the restrictions are being lifted, the danger of human-caused wildfires remains a concern and if conditions change, fire restrictions will be implemented. Also, there are still a number of areas in Colorado where fire restrictions are still in place.
The status of fire restrictions in Mesa County can be found on the Mesa County Fire Restrictions website. Fire restrictions for each Colorado county can be found on the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control website and the Colorado Emergency Management website.
