CMU Women Advance, Maverick Men End Season
The Colorado Mesa Women's basketball team advanced to the semi-finals of the RMAC Shootout on Tuesday, while the Maverick men saw their season come to an end in Denver.
The Maverick women defeated the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs at Brownson Arena 70-57. The Mavericks led start to finish, led by Sharaya Selsor's 22 points, 15 from Aubrey Boehme, 14 from Christen Lopez, and 12 from Hannal Pollart.
Selsor, a senior from Glenwood Springs was named the RMAC Player of the Year this week, and CMU Women's Head Coach Taylor Wagner was named the RMAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
The Mavericks will face Regis Friday night at 7:30 at Brownson Arena. The winner advances to the finals against the Black Hills State/CSU Pueblo winner. The Mavericks are now 26-1 on the season, and have won 36 consecutive home games.
Meanwhile, the Maverick men gave top-ranked Metro State all they could handle before falling 83-74. The Mavs trailed by one at halftime, and were just 4 points behind with 4:28 to play.
The Mavericks end the season 13-14 under first year head coach Andy Shantz.
