Bicyclists May Get Right of Way Law in Colorado
Biking in Colorado is a great way to get to work and save money but it's not always safe, even when bike lanes are prevalent.
But with Senate Bill 20-061, bicyclists may be able to feel just a bit safer.
The bill will legally give the right of way to bicyclists that are in the bike lanes.
How many times have you seen bicyclists, in their lane, get cut off by a car turning right when they are going straight? It happens a lot, and if the bill passes, it may happen with a lot less frequency.
If the bill passes it would result in a $70 fine for a driver who has restricted the right of way of a cyclist and become a Class A offense. If it results in a crash, more charges could be added including reckless driving.
We are always looking to reduce greenhouse gases, and biking is one way to do that. It's good to see the state looking out for bicyclists.
